The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) chapter, has suspended its over one-month-old strike embarked upon to press home its demands.
Chairman of ASUU NSUK Chapter, Dr. Zubairu Abdulmumini Loko, disclosed this while briefing newsmen shortly after a meeting with the Governing Council of the University on Wednesday in Keffi.
Dr. Loko said the strike was suspended conditionally pending the implementation of wide-ranging agreements reached with the Council geared towards resolving their grievances.
According to him, the conditions include that the Governing Council has directed the management to pay one month arrears of the CATA allowance before the end of September and to persuade the Governor to pay at least two more arrears before the end of his tenure.
He also said the meeting resolved that the State Government is to immediately take over payment of pension to reduce the financial burden on the University and to meet with the State House of Assembly to hasten the passage of the pension counterpart fund, among several other demands.
Loko said following the suspension of the strike, lecturers are expected to resume academic activities immediately in the interest of the educational development of the state.
The ASUU NSUK chapter also appreciated several individuals and organisations who intervened in the situation that led to the suspension of the strike, describing their actions as patriotic.
It will be recalled that the ASUU NSUK chapter last month suspended all academic activities in protest over a wide range of disputes, including seven months arrears of the Federal Government/ASUU 2025 agreement known as the CATA allowance meant to support academic staff with professional, teaching, and research-related expenses.(Kwararafa times media)
