Bauchi Police Restrict Movement, Deployed heavy Personnel for Bye-Elections

Police in Bauchi has announced movement restrictions and massive security deployment ahead of Saturday’s bye-elections in Disina and Sakwa state constituencies.

The elections will be held on September 19 in Shira and Zaki local government areas.

In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said personnel and operational assets had been deployed in collaboration with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

Vehicular movement and commercial activities will be restricted from 6 am to 6 pm on election day, except for essential workers, INEC officials, observers and emergency responders.

The police also barred VIP security aides from accompanying their principals to polling units and collation centres, while prohibiting sirens, covering number plates and the participation of vigilantes and private security guards in election security operations.

The command warned against vote-buying, hate speech, fake news, thuggery and possession of dangerous weapons, stressing that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.

The CP assured residents of adequate protection and urged parents to prevent their children from being recruited as political thugs.(The Tentacles)
