The President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi, has expressed sympathy with the management and staff of the Gombe Media Corporation (GMC) over the fire incident that destroyed the building housing the corporation’s television studios.
The fire, which occurred on Saturday, reportedly destroyed several facilities and broadcasting equipment at the corporation.
The NUJ President, who was in Lagos when the incident occurred, constituted a delegation led by the NUJ Zonal Vice President, Zone E, Comrade Zare Baba, to visit the corporation and convey his sympathy.
Alhassan said he received the news of the incident with deep shock, particularly given the extent of damage and the valuable equipment lost to the inferno.
He expressed confidence that the affected facilities would be restored, while damaged equipment replaced, with the commitment of the Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
The NUJ President commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for providing modern broadcasting equipment that facilitated the digitalisation of the state-owned broadcast stations.
He said journalists, particularly media practitioners in Gombe State, would continue to appreciate the governor’s support and contributions to the development of the media sector.
Alhassan also appealed to the governor to facilitate the completion and handover of the NUJ Secretariat in Gombe to journalists before the end of his tenure.
Responding on behalf of the Director-General of GMC, Dr Ibrahim Isa, the Director of Marketing, Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Ibrahim, thanked the NUJ President for the gesture.
He also commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his sustained support to the Gombe Media Corporation.(Insight Pulse Media)
