Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has taken custody of Walida Abdulhadi Ibrahim, who had been missing since 2023 and was in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). The governor assured that justice will be served regarding her abduction.

Accompanied by state officials, Governor Namadi received Walida from the DSS in Abuja. While her parents were absent during the handover, various civil society organizations and media representatives were present.

Walida was allegedly abducted by Mariam and subjected to exploitation before being taken in by DSS operative Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi, with whom she gave birth to a daughter in November 2025. After her relatives’ efforts to recover her failed, legal actions led to her release from DSS custody.

Governor Namadi emphasized that Walida’s safety is paramount, stating she will remain under state protection in Abuja until legal matters are resolved. The DSS Director General, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, confirmed that Ifeanyi remains in custody for investigation.

Barrister Haroun Muhammad from the Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs expressed concerns about the potential social unrest surrounding the case.(Nigeria this moment)
