Journalists, Influencers In Benue Get Training On Fighting Fake News, Hate Speech

A two days training for Journalists, Social media influencers and local community media activists for Three local Government areas of Benue state is ongoing in otukpo town of Benue on ethical Reporting and Countering misinformation, disinformation and Hate speech

Our Correspondent Francis Ter. who is attending the training reports that the training is Organized by the Center for Democracy and Development in Africa for Otukpo, Gwer West and Obi Local government Areas of the state.

Program manager and Facilitor Mr Raji Olatunji informed participants that the training is focusing on Strengthing Community Resilience Against Disinformation and Hate speech in Northern Nigeria

According to Mr Olatunji participants are expected to understand ethical Reporting standards, Apply verification Techniques and practices, conflicts and sensitivity reporting among others saying the choice of journalists and media practitioners for the training was as a result of their role as major sources of information gathering and dissemination.

Some of the participants including Abrahams Ochife of Radio Benue, who said the training was impactful as the training has revealed the ways to verify information and deal with fake news while Jacob Atanya information officer gwer west local government posited that training had availed him the knowledge on how to differentiate between misinformation and disinformation as well as hate speech.
