In my opinion and perspective, the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Kano State Council under the chairmanship of Comrade Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi has continued to demonstrate responsible leadership and commitment toward protecting the welfare, unity, and professional integrity of working journalists in the state.
The current administration of the union has shown a clear determination to build a strong and united body of journalists who can work together in harmony while upholding the noble values of the journalism profession.
Such unity among journalists is vital for strengthening the credibility of the media industry.
Working alongside the chairman is the Vice Chairman, Comrade Mustapha Gambo Muhammad, whose dedication to the affairs of the council has contributed greatly to maintaining cooperation and understanding among members of the union.
The Acting Secretary, Comrade Hajiya Hauwa Zaharaddeen, has also demonstrated commendable administrative ability by ensuring effective communication and coordination within the union, thereby helping to keep members informed about the activities and policies of the council.
In the area of financial responsibility, the Treasurer, Comrade Nura Bala Ajingi, has continued to play a significant role in managing the financial resources of the union with a sense of accountability and transparency.
Similarly, the Financial Secretary, Comrade Abdullahi Hassan, has been contributing effectively by maintaining proper financial documentation and ensuring that the union’s financial operations remain organized and supportive of members’ welfare.
The Auditor, Comrade Salisu Kassim Yakasai, also deserves recognition for performing the important duty of monitoring financial activities within the council to ensure that they comply with the principles of accountability and integrity.
One of the most significant achievements of the present leadership, in my view, is its emphasis on strengthening unity among working journalists across different media organizations.
A united body of journalists is always better positioned to defend professional values and protect members’ interests.
The leadership has also continued to encourage journalists in Kano State to strictly observe the ethics and code of conduct guiding the journalism profession.
Adherence to these professional standards remains essential for maintaining public confidence in the media.
Journalism is a profession that carries enormous responsibility because it involves informing the public, shaping opinions, and promoting democratic values.
Therefore, strict compliance with ethical standards and professional discipline must always guide the activities of journalists.
Another commendable aspect of the council’s leadership is its effort to ensure that union activities are conducted in accordance with the constitution and by-laws guiding the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
Respect for the rule of law within the union helps to strengthen transparency and fairness.
Through these efforts, the leadership has continued to encourage journalists to remain committed to professionalism, truth, fairness, and responsibility in the discharge of their duties to society.
Furthermore, the council’s leadership has demonstrated concern for the survival and welfare of journalists, recognizing that improving the well-being of members is essential for building a vibrant and responsible media community.
In my opinion, the progress being witnessed within the NUJ Kano State Council today is largely the result of teamwork, cooperation, and a shared commitment by the Executive Council members to serve the interest of journalists.
In conclusion, the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Kano State Council under Comrade Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi and his Executive Council members deserves commendation for promoting unity among journalists, strengthening adherence to ethics and professional conduct, and ensuring that the union operates within the provisions of its laws and regulations.
