The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kebbi State Council, has distributed bags of rice and cash to families of deceased members of the union in the state.
The scheme, which started about 11 years ago, has been sustained under different leaderships of the union.
Each family of the deceased member was given N10, 000 cash and a bag of rice.
While speaking at the event held at the Kebbi State Television premises, the Chairman, Comrade Bello Sarki, explained that the council extended the gesture to families of the 30 deceased members to ease the hardship in the country and to make them feel happy despite the departure of their breadwinners.
He commended the state governor, Dr. Nasir Idris; media team of the governor, and rice mills in the state for supporting the council to execute the annual palliative distributions.
In his remark, the Special Adviser to Kebbi State Governor on Communication and Strategy, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru commended the leadership of the council for sustaining the palliative for eleven years. Zuru also applauded the journalists in the state for projecting the image of the state government to the entire nation, stressing that because of their support, Nigerians and the whole world know various projects Governor Idris is doing across the state.
He urged journalists in the state to sustain the tempo, be professional and fair to the state government whenever there is a need.(The Sun)
