Staff of Taraba State University, Jalingo, comprising both academic and non-academic unions, have accepted a N500 million offer from Governor Agbu Kefas, paving the way for an end to the ongoing industrial action.
The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the institution, Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, disclosed this to our correspondent on Monday, noting that the acceptance is conditional.
According to him, the unions have agreed to the offer but will only call off the strike after signing a formal agreement with the state government.
“We have accepted the N500 million offer by Governor Agbu Kefas, but on the condition that an agreement is signed with the government. We need to be sure that the governor will keep his promises,” Mbave said.
He added that the strike would be suspended immediately after the agreement is formalised.
Mbave also clarified that the N500 million intervention is not exclusively for ASUU, but covers both academic and non-academic staff of the university.(Peoples Daily)
