The Oyo State Government has directed residents living along riverbanks, waterways, and other flood-prone areas to immediately relocate to safer locations, as forecasts indicate that heavy rainfall in 2026 may trigger widespread flooding.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Engineer Ademola Aderinto, the government emphasized that the directive is a proactive step aimed at safeguarding lives and property ahead of the peak rainy season.

‎Engineer Aderinto noted that the state government has intensified efforts to prevent flooding and mitigate its impact, adding that these measures are part of a broader strategy to ensure environmental safety and disaster preparedness.

The Commissioner also cautioned farmers against premature planting during early rains that may not be sustained, advising them to await official guidance from relevant authorities before commencing planting activities.

‎He urged all residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with government directives, and stay informed through official communication channels. He also called on the public to report illegal developments and any form of obstruction along waterways.(News registerng.com)
