Bandits have killed three people and set several houses and shops ablaze in Dangoro village, Bungudu Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, made this known in a press release on Monday.

Abubakar said that on 28th March 2026, at about 2230hrs, a group of bandits carrying AK-47 rifles attacked Dangoro village via Nahuche District in Bungudu Local Government Area.

The assailants, according to Abubakar, invaded the community, shooting sporadically and setting villagers’ houses and silos ablaze.

He said, “Upon receipt of the report, a joint team of police operatives and vigilante members swiftly mobilised and responded to the scene.

“The team engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, successfully repelling the attack and forcing the criminals to flee into the bush with possible gunshot injuries.

“Regrettably, three people lost their lives during the incident, including a member of the Community Protection Guard.

"Additionally, five persons sustained gunshot injuries, while four others suffered varying degrees of burn injuries.

“The bandits also burnt several houses, silos containing food grains, and livestock, including goats.”

Abubakar further explained that all the injured victims were evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, where they are receiving treatment and responding positively.

He maintained that the command had intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous act.

Abubakar stressed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Bello, assured the people of the state of the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding their lives and properties.

He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information.(Punch E-Paper)
