Concerned about the welfare of veterans and its members the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Jigawa State Council, has disbursed about two million Naira to Veterans and families of Prominent deceased Journalists as Sallah assistance.
Disbursing the amount at a special occasion held at the Press Centre Dutse, the state Chairman of the Union comrade Ismail Ibrahin Dutse said the NUJ with honour and respect recognised the immense contributions rendered by the recipients to make the Union what it is today.
He said the money distributed was a request made by the union to the state government and approved by his Excellency Governor Umar Namadi.
“The state government deserved to be commended for honouring the financial request to assist our veterans who made sacrifices to promote and save the prestige of the Journalism profession,” the Chairman added.
In his message to the occasion, the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, assured the NUJ, the continued support and cooperation of the state government, noting the tremendous achievements of the present NUJ leadership within the short period of its inception.
The Commissioner, represented by Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hajiya Zainab Rabo Ringim, stated that the cordial relationship between the government and the press will continue to wax stronger.
The Commissioner noted that Jigawa state was blessed with professional Journalists the Government is proud to work with.
Alhaji Sagir said in recognition of reliable and accurate dissemination of information by Journalists in the state, the government set up a Media Campaign team comprising veteran Journalists which will be inaugurated soon.
Responding on behalf of the recipients, a Veteran Salmanu Adamu Rishi, thanked the NUJ Leadership for honoring and remembering the sacrifices rendered by the veterans to keep the flag flying in the profession.(Nigerian Kicker)
