In a major boost for healthcare services, 396 health workers previously engaged under a UNICEF and Gavi-supported programme have been officially absorbed into the Niger State Civil Service.
Commissioner for Health, Abdullahi Bagana, announced the development during the presentation of employment letters to the workers.
According to him, the decision is aimed at addressing manpower shortages in health facilities and ensuring sustainability of healthcare services across rural and urban communities.
Bagana stated that the move demonstrates government's commitment to improving healthcare delivery while simultaneously reducing unemployment.
Health experts have welcomed the development, noting that many primary healthcare centres have struggled with inadequate staffing for years.
The newly employed workers are expected to strengthen immunisation programmes, maternal healthcare services and other essential health interventions.
Many beneficiaries described the employment as life-changing and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them.(Rosy News Blog)
