A grieving mother has called for justice following the alleged death of her 15-year-old son, Busang Ayuka, after he was reportedly assaulted by personnel of the Taraba State Marshal in Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Angwan Alfa in Selti B, Gashaka. Although the teenager survived the initial assault, he later died on Friday, July 24, 2026, while receiving treatment at the UMCN Hospital, Mile 6, Jalingo.
Speaking exclusively with our correspondent, the deceased’s mother, Mrs. Hasena Ayuka, alleged that her son was arrested by operatives of the Taraba State Marshal following a complaint by one of his friends over a missing MP3 player and power bank.
According to her, the complainant had approached her on the night of the incident, claiming Busang had taken the items. He subsequently reported the matter to the Taraba State Marshal office.
“The following day, which was Sunday, officers of the Taraba State Marshal arrested my son. Later, they asked me to come to the CRCN Hospital in Gashaka, where I found him lying half-dead,” she said.
Mrs. Ayuka alleged that the officers claimed her son developed an ulcer while in custody, but she rejected the explanation, insisting he had no history of such an illness.
“My son never had an ulcer. When I saw him, his neck appeared broken, parts of his body were swollen, and he could not speak. From that moment until he died, he never regained consciousness.
“We later transferred him to UMCN Hospital in Jalingo, but he died on Friday,” she said.
She further disclosed that the body had been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) mortuary.
Calling for justice, the bereaved mother urged the Taraba State Government and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her son’s death.
“My family wants to know why my son was killed. Whatever the allegation against him, nobody has the right to take his life. We want justice for Busang,” she pleaded.(The Cabal)
