Jewel Environmental Initiative (JEI), a Gombe State-based non-governmental organisation, has commended President Bola Tinubu for launching the Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour (REHCCAT).

In a press statement signed by its Chief Executive Officer, Ismail Bima, JEI said it fully supports the initiative and backs efforts to raise climate change awareness nationwide.

According to Bima, the programme has the potential to inspire climate action through innovation, education, and sustainable development.

“With the growing impact of climate change in Nigeria, particularly in the North, this initiative is not only timely but urgently needed to build a climate-resilient and sustainable future for all Nigerians,” he said.

Bima highlighted the lack of adequate climate information in rural communities and stressed that campaigns like REHCCAT can cultivate a culture of awareness, partnership, and resilience. He noted that such efforts are critical for protecting livelihoods, the environment, and humanity.

“We must invest in solution-driven approaches to climate change and make practical efforts to mitigate its effects, so farmers and other key stakeholders can find relief,” Bima added.

He further commended President Tinubu and the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, urging all stakeholders to lend their support. “Climate change impacts everyone. This is the moment to consolidate ongoing efforts and strengthen grassroots resilience,” he said.

President Tinubu inaugurated REHCCAT on Tuesday in Abuja during a ceremony at the State House Conference. The initiative aims to promote climate resilience and sustainable development across Nigeria, with a call for governors, private sector actors, and other stakeholders to lead the country’s climate transition and turn awareness into practical action.(The Guardian)
