The Commissioner, Bauchi State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka, has paid a condolence visit to the Bauchi state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the passing away of two of its members, Mr. Kani Ben of Channels Television and Mr. Kabiru Ahmed Ilelah of Bauchi State Television.

Speaking at the NUJ secretariat yesterday, Wanka described the news of their demise as “profoundly sorrowful”, but noted that it was a submission to the will of Allah.

The two journalists lost their lives after sustaining injuries in a road accident while covering the activities of the North East Development Commission.

Wanka stated that the sudden loss of the journalists is a devastating blow to the journalism community in Bauchi State and Nigeria at large.

She described the deceased as hardworking, courageous, and committed professionals who carried out their duties with passion and integrity.

“The late Kani Ben and Kabiru Ahmed Ilelah were known among colleagues as dedicated journalists who played a critical role in bringing stories to life and ensuring that the public remained informed about events shaping society,” she said.

The Commissioner extended her condolences to the leadership and members of the NUJ Bauchi State Council, the bereaved families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, praying that the Almighty grants them strength and fortitude to bear the loss.

While responding, the Bauchi state Council Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Umar Sa’idu appreciated the Commissioner for the visit, describing it as a sign of good working relationships with journalists and her ministry.

He also thanked her for visiting the hospital and donating cash to the affected journalists.(Baushetimes.com)
