President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has adjusted his official schedule, postponing a planned visit to Ogun State to travel instead to Plateau State, where he will commiserate with residents following recent gun attacks that claimed the lives of innocent citizens.

The President is expected to arrive in Jos, the state capital, in a show of solidarity with grieving families and the wider community.

The visit comes amid heightened concern over recurring violence in the state, with many calling for urgent and sustained interventions to restore peace and security.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said the visit underscores the administration’s commitment to standing with affected communities in times of crisis.

The decision to prioritise Plateau State reflects the gravity of the situation on the ground, where communities have been left reeling from the attacks.

The President is expected to engage with state officials and assess the security situation while offering federal support to prevent further violence.

Originally, Tinubu had been scheduled to travel to Iperu in Ogun State to inaugurate the Gateway International Cargo Airport. That visit has now been rescheduled to Saturday, April 4.

Despite the change, the rest of the President’s itinerary remains largely intact. After he visits Plateau, he will proceed to Lagos to observe the Good Friday holiday.

While in Lagos, he is also expected to commission several infrastructure projects delivered under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, including the Ojota/Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information System Building, a multi-agency complex, and a school facility.

He will later travel to Ogun State for the rescheduled commissioning of the cargo airport, as well as the inauguration of two commercial aircraft intended to boost trade and logistics.

The President will also unveil a new facility for the Federal Operations Unit of the Nigerian Customs Service and its operational vehicles.

The multi-state tour will conclude with a visit to Bayelsa State on April 10, where he will commission projects completed by Governor Duoye Diri.

However, it is the situation in Plateau State that has taken centre stage. The President’s visit is widely seen as a critical gesture of empathy and leadership at a time when residents are grappling with loss, fear, and uncertainty.(Douba Post)
